Herbert Díaz Moraga, an undergraduate student at UC and a member of QuDIT, has achieved outstanding participation in the 12th annual NYUAD International Hackathon for Social Good. The event took place from 25 to 28 April 2024 at New York University in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. During this high-level international competition, Herbert and other participants were challenged to develop practical applications of quantum computing aimed at addressing significant social issues.
At this crowded event, Herbert distinguished himself as the sole representative from Chile, forming part of an exclusive group of six students from all over South America selected to participate. This inclusion not only highlights his exceptional ability but also projects our institution and Chile onto the international stage of quantum computing.
Herbert’s opportunity to attend this prestigious hackathon stemmed from interactions that began in January with GESDA diplomat, Mrs. Maricela Muñoz (see news of 17 January). We are deeply grateful to Dr. Silvia Díaz Acosta, President of the National Council for Science, Technology, Knowledge, and Innovation, for facilitating this valuable connection with GESDA.
We are excited to strengthen our collaboration with GESDA and the Open Quantum Institute in the near future, continuing our commitment to promoting innovation and scientific development on a global scale.
